If I may make a suggestion or 2 on layout?
Study newspapers and comics. They usually have text at the top and a pic at the bottom.
Use your pics that way to give your memes a one-two punch.
It's not always possible but when you can move the text up your meme gains. People have read comics and newspapers for over a century.
Also reduce the blank spaces more.
The hardest part - good ideas - you have already mastered - much better than mine.
Memes are an art form and you are an artist.

I have the spaces to distinguish one frame from the next. The caption must be associated with the correct frame. I prefer a little gappy over too close. I have to estimate the gap before I have it all together, as the gaps are in the image itselft. I don't have the means to adjust once it's together.
