There is one racing game series where hitting other cars is impossible. It's the Trackmania series. Cars can go off the track and crash into walls, buildings, and other solid objects. But if you try to hit another car, you'll pass through that car as if both cars were ghosts. If there's auto racing in Heaven, I imagine it's just like Trackmania.

While a lot of NASCAR drivers are well-known for intentionally hitting other cars to advance (especially Dale Earnhardt), one notable exception was Jeff Gordon. And the man who helped Jeff Gordon be a clean racer was his dad, John Bickford, who earned his paycheck building custom car parts for disabled drivers. When Jeff Gordon started racing as a little kid, if he hit another car and won the race, his dad would make him give his trophy to the driver of the car he hit and apologize. (That only happened three times.) That's how Lance Armstrong should have been punished for cheating in the Tour De France.
