Well the point of the og song was to list events in an order to illustrate how yknow “we didn’t start the fire” and it genuinely does feel like you’re going through the years with that song starting with the Korean War and ending with the end of Vietnam about, which gives it power as a sort of time capsule of the Cold War era and how the chaos we know today isn’t anything new
Fall Out boy’s rendition has an obligation to do the same, especially considering its earlier events start about where the original left off. It had the potency to actually seamlessly go from one era to the next and contain the same powerful message on the inherent chaos of civilization but it dropped the ball by kinda just spouting whatever relevant words had rhyme to them, like it’s cool they list the black parade and Metroid but also that’s not really a big deal especially all the meaningless sports news fit in that song, like actual genocides don’t make the list of relevant events but the Cubs winning does???? Just dumb imo
