Why would Jesus ever not be the head of church? Anyone who says Jesus is not Lord is committing heresy.

The root of the word "church" (εκκλησία) refers to the assembly of people and people usually refer to a living person as their leader. The messiah (the anointed one) is has the same meaning as king (the crowned one). Today like it or not if you believe you are a Christian then your king/messiah resides in the Vatican and is called the Pope! Many people have disagreed with the the Pope of Rome being "the anointed one" and have anointed there own popes. Jesus was king but kings die and other kings take their place. the funny thing about religious kings is they try hold on to their founders teachings/beliefs but modify them to suit modern times and their own wisdom and biases. The most reprehensible human trait is need to control other humans! Religion is just another control mechanism.

Heh heh, that's a perfect example of knowing enough about Christianity for it to be blatantly obvious of what you don't know about it, or it could possibly be that you might just be feeding off of certain uninformed atheist slop (I've seen both uninformed Christian and atheist slop).
Did you know that, according to Christian doctrine, Jesus is NOT dead? I take it you may have heard of the phrase, "Jesus is King." Does it say that Jesus WAS king? Certainly not. Does it say, "Pope Leo XIV is king?" Not a chance. It says that Jesus IS the King, that Jesus is Lord of the universe. I'm surprised that you know what you know but not basic Christian doctrine, that Jesus is the Son of God.
