There was a Channel 31 here that had programs from other channels, and I used to watch stuff from Italy, this was back in the late '80s and early 90s. I watched RAI programs like Moda and also Fantastico with Adriano Celentano. I was even learning a little Italian from watching, getting my pronunciations correct. I can't really converse in Italian, but I can alter my Spanish to sound more Italian, even though my Spanish is pretty bad as well. But it's enough to get by, like if an old Italian woman was looking for something in the supermarket, I can help.
I could even understand those Italian programs a little better than Spanish ones, because at least they speak more slowly. Spanish people speak really fast and when I try watching Spanish television or movies, I get lost.
Anyways, then Giuliani became mayor and he sold the channel off because it was a New York City owned public station. What a jerk.
