If there's one character who had a very big redemption, it was definitely Pest Sprout!
Now, this scene felt very anticlimactic IMO. I was assuming that Eternal, the most powerful Demon Sword as established on the website, was going to seriously lose it, turn back to his normal sword self, and begin attacking the Sprouts with spells and a demon army and stuff. So seeing him pathetically lunge his shrunken body at Momma Sprout made me go "Dude... THAT'S your attack?".
I also thought we were going to finally see Momma Sprout unleash her powers to fight Eternal. I was legit screaming at her "GIRL YOU'RE THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT, UNLEASH SOME KIND OF MAGICAL LIGHT BARRIER OR SHIELD OR SOMETHING!!!!!!" before I saw the last two panels.
Not to mention that this makes Quest Sprout's training mini arc seem kinda pointless if he wasn't going to do anything with his strength, wisdom, resistance, or defense.
Once again, the writing continues to leave a bunch of plot holes and wasted potential; So, you mean to tell me that...
- Momma Sprout, despite being the Guardian of Light, was not able to escape being captured by Eternal or even killed by him?
- Eternal was completely powerless the entire time Quest Sprout and company began outsmarting him?
- The Sprouts don't get to beat the crud out of Eternal in a dangerous, high-stakes battle?
- The Final Qwest was THAT easy?
Earlier on in the series, Matthew had lots of his characters fight Boundless Hunger as the Demon King in a very violent battle. I was under the impression that the Final Qwest was going to be on a similar level!
Granted, this WOULD'VE conflicted with the plot of Harpe and Joyeuse setting out to defeat all of the Demon Swords*, but why not have it so that they show up to help the Sprouts fight Eternal?
It just felt very disappointing IMO, and I can imagine older Swords fans, who waited YEARS for this, feeling the same way.
Before this comic was added, I created a transcript of what I thought was gonna happen next:
[Eternal Slumber nervously sweats.]
Eternal Slumber: No... this can't be happening. This CANNOT be happening...
[Eternal Slumber has now transformed back to his regular sword form.]
Eternal Slumber: I am the Demon Sword of Eternal Slumber! I will NOT lose to an army of puny heroes!
[Momma Sprout levitates from the tower and turns to face Eternal Slumber.]
Momma Sprout: Huh, have we met? You seem to have forgotten that I'm the Guardian of Light. And I've have enough of this nightmare...
[Momma Sprout begins summoning attack spells from her hands.]
Momma Sprout: I'm ready to wake up!
[Eternal Slumber looks at Momma Sprout with a sinister expression.]
Eternal Slumber: I captured you, and I can do it again. Only this time, your eyes will be shut for good!
[Quest Sprout begins summoning attack spells from his hands.]
Quest Sprout: Qwest!
[Eternal Slumber begins summoning attack spells from his tentacles.]
Eternal Slumber: If I have to kill you both, then so be it!
[Eternal Slumber blasts his spells at the Sprouts.]
Eternal Slumber: Let's see you wake up from THIS!!
[The Sprouts dodge the spells and blast theirs at Eternal Slumber.]
(Insert scene of the Sprouts fighting Eternal in a very intense battle while the others fight a demon army.)
[Eternal Slumber begins summoning his Sleep Paralysis spell.]
Eternal Slumber: For a dumb little family of plants, you sure make this fight a challenge. Too bad neither of your powers are strong enough to defeat me!
[The Sprouts combine their magic to create a powerful light spell. Eternal Slumber nervously sweats as they do it.]
Momma Sprout: Then I guess we'll have to do the logical thing and combine our powers!
[The Sprouts are whispering to each other.]
Momma Sprout: Are you ready?
Quest Sprout: Qwest!
[The Sprouts blast their spell at Eternal Slumber.]
Momma Sprout: Heart of Bograk!
Quest Sprout: Qwest!
[Eternal Slumber blasts his spell at the Sprouts.]
Eternal Slumber: Sleep Paralysis!
[The spells clash with each other. The light spell begins to outpower the Sleep Paralysis spell.]
[Eternal Slumber begins to panic as the light spell gets closer, completely outpowering his Sleep Paralysis spell.]
Eternal Slumber: N-no!! The light... it's... TOO POWERFUL!!
[The light spell blasts Eternal Slumber, severely harming him as he's knocked to the ground of the Dream Realm.]
Eternal Slumber: AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
- Harpe and Joyeuse immediately showing up to kill Eternal with Harpe's Godsword as the Sprouts weaken him
OR
- The Sprouts mauling Eternal with their spell to the point where he can't fight back and leaving him injured, with Harpe and Joyeuse eventually showing up later to finish him
That way, we can have it so that the girls' quest can still include them killing Eternal while the Sprouts get to beat him up as revenge!
