Earlier in the series, it's established that the cursed sword corrupts people into becoming evil if they don't make it to the top of the mountain in time.
I'm guessing, because he's a literal demon, Pest Sprout is already evil and thus didn't get corrupted by the sword.
I guess there are some perks in being a demon!
