its a video game character called a Gjall

this giant thing works with giant ticks to hunt its prey.
Ticks latch on to the bottom of the gjall, and when it is above the prey, the gjall releases the ticks, the ticks kill their prey and they get back up using the gjall's large tendrils.
they then share the blood the ticks absorb and they find another target
