I do set and mallets too, but I’m usually used a filler because all our players have a preference/main instruments and I can do all

No offense but percussion seems kind of easy

I can read both clefs fluently, I can retune the timpani in 3 measures by ear, I can actually hold the crash symbols without doubling over and I march with the bass drum. This is but a mere sliver of my power. Percussion isn’t easy. That’s why so many people drop out. Set alone is hard. Try playing 4 different rhythms with each foot and hand

You try lifting up a 3.5 foot instrument, that weighs like 15 pounds, get perfect embouchure, the perfect neck strap, and also try and practice that thing at home

Have you seen the marching base drum harness. It looks like a renaissance torture device

So does a cello or upright bass case
