The book of Revelations, which was where the majority of the sources for these interpretations, is heavily inspired off of Greek mythology due to being written in Greek. (Aspects of it, not the whole book. I still do believe it as doctrine). The rest seem to be figures of speech. Being distant from god does seem to go along with lakes of fire and the Nether type stuff, but this is just my interpretation
