There is a computer I have that literally used to look like the bottom image until I cleaned it.

Did it affect performance

I don't know because the computer just wouldn't show anything on the screen even after cleaning. It has been like that since I was around 5 - 6 years old.

I tried doing everything possible to fix it until it started smoking and I haven't touched it since. That was only a couple years ago.
