In one of the episodes before E8, Zooble says “the only thing that’s holding back Caine is the fact that he likes us”.

So during E8 when Caine was torturing the cast and before he was “killed”, he realized what he was doing to the cast and was cut off when he said “wait”, as he was deleted.

So, didn’t he get hit with remorse after what he did, or he wanted to apologize?

Caine's VA has confirmed that he said "wait" there because he realized what he was actually doing the humans is wrong.
