You may believe profanity is an indicator of low vocabulary or stupidity, but I don't. Many very smart people use/have used profanity frequently, including astronauts, Woody Hayes, Steve Jobs and Elon Musk.
Here are the two REAL reasons people use profanity:
1. They're trying to fit in and not appear too prudish or uptight (which usually doesn't work because people see them as phonies)
2. They're angry, and their anger is often understandable if not 100% justified.
