I think that the argument for them being mostly good people stems from the fact that the media they consume (namely Fox News) lies to them constantly so that they believe that these politicians are good people

I understand that but at what point do we accept they are willing participants? They choose to watch lies. At what point do they stop making excuses for who they voted for when EVERYONE has been telling them for ten years how bad he has always been?

I get that
I mean yeah some people should really get out of their own ideological brains
But the fact of the matter is that not only are they being lied to, they are also being told that the entirety of mainstream media is lying to them, so they surround themselves in an echo chamber of gaslighting and distrust
Yeah I believe that some people do know better and should be held accountable, other have just been manipulated

Can you really be manipulated into being racist or sexist or ignoring evidence? They go willingly because that's who they are. I was taught the same junk they were taught and I knew it was wrong when I was 6. They are adults that chose to follow hate. No manipulation is needed.

I'm having this "forgiveness" conversation with several people at the moment. Most agree with you. I'm beyond forgiveness. They've followed him through some sketchy shite in the last ten years but defending his right to rape 14 year olds pushed me over the edge. I no longer care why they're enabling the abuse of children. I just care that they are. No excuses accepted from me anymore.

Oh I entirely agree that anyone defending or enabling what he is actually doing should 100 percent be held accountable and that that is an inexcusable offense
What I don’t agree with is the idea that all Trump supporters are aware of the situation at hand. The algorithms that feed them their news are very careful to simply hide all the bad stuff that goes on which leaves people with a very twisted picture of reality. I think these people ought to educate themselves and get out of that echo chamber but I don’t believe that this makes them culpable as enablers

I certainly think that government officials, right wing journalist, political commentators, etc should be held accountable because they know the truth and still support this evil
But the average voter is very different
I’m gonna step away because it’s silly to have a full blown debate over a meme post, however I will say that I see and understand your perspective, but I think that the culpability of people varies and it’s a bit more nuanced than that

We will have to agree to disagree but I want you on my jury if I ever need one! In the beginning I would agree that they didn't comprehend what he was doing but I think they wanted what Trump was offering or they never would have voted for him. All he's ever offered is destruction. They have to take responsibility for continuing to enable him even after they saw what he was doing. I do not agree that they're all so stupid that they didn't know they were being fed obvious lies. They continue to support him because they agree with his terrorism.

Are you defending family or friends or someone you care about? My entire family is in Texas. All of them. We started out there since the early 1700s actually. That's as far as I've gotten with the family tree so far anyway. I walked away from them when I turned 18 because ... that's who they are. That's who they've always been. I knew decades ago. Why didn't they? I say, they knew, agreed that whites should rule and white men in particular, had rights no one else had. I will not defend them. They are adults and choose to believe what they believe just as I do.

History has proven that some people are just mean.

Is this a debate? I thought it was just a conversation we can agree to disagree about. ✌️🫵👍❤️

Yeah no I see what you mean
I live in an area that is predominantly republican so while I do have family that is republican I also just know some people in general
I think part of the issue is that Trump targets undereducated people (an overwhelming majority of people with illiteracy issues voted for him) and created a culture of demonizing those who you disagree with so much that you refuse to listen to them who j is part of the issue
But I see where you’re coming from, and I think that a lot of people 100 percent do make these choices in full knowledge, but there is also a manipulation of the illiteracy crisis in America at play
So I both agree and disagree
And no yeah it’s not a full blown debate at this point, I just wanted to make sure it didn’t get there :)
But yeah I’m sensing that I’m quite a bit younger than you and I have some more forming of my opinion to do
And as a person whose opinion has changed drastically in the past, I’m open to more change, so I’m happy to have this discussion

I LOVE debating but, like my hubby, most people think it's arguing. I've learned more from debating with people I disagree with than people I do agree with.

I know exactly what you're saying and for the most part I agreed. All these years and all of Trump's crimes and I still thought like you. It's not all their fault. They, We, have all been played and brainwashed by some seriously vile people. It's all so much it's overwhelming. Then the Epstein files started dropping. Little by little we learned just how ducked up it all was and that Trump, their new Messiah, has always been a pedophile.

I stopped defending them when they defended his right to rape children. That's not brainwashed. That's not uneducated. That's willful and accepting. That's pure evil.

It seems like the only people left that like Trump are rapists, pedophiles, child molesters, incestopliles, wife beaters and women haters. Everyone else seems to be coming around ... finally.

This has been a very nice discussion. Seems like I've gone down an angry road while most of you are on the forgiving road. I'll get there eventually. I'm watching my country do to all women what my family did to me which makes forgiveness ... a process. It'll come, eventually. 👍🫵🌹
