It reminds me of that Phineas and Ferb ep. where Doof is told that the reason his plants keep dying is because he didn't have a green thumb. So he bought a bucket of green paint and poured it on himself, he was covered in green paint except for his thumbs. He later realizes that it was a metaphor.
