The formation of "Ice Flowers" is a magnificent natural phenomenon on the Great Lakes
When temperatures drop below freezing, the water underneath the ice is forced upward, creating small cracks. Because the water flowing through these cracks is minimal and freezes almost instantly, thin, irregularly shaped layers of ice are formed. Over time, these layers accumilate and create fantastic geometric shapes.
