The only thing double jump does is stretch platforms away from each other. It’s the exact same mechanic as a normal jump but now it’s longer.
I do think clamber has its place (the mechanic where if you land on the edge of a platform your character automatically climbs up it). But double jump wouldn’t exist if the developers just designed their levels more effectively.
If you mean like a metroidvania where you need it to access a new area, sure. But there are many other mechanics I could think of that would accomplish that same goal that aren’t just jump a second time.
