Normal people start with "looking at the evidence" then decide their conclusions based on the evidence.

Conservative people start with an assumption about who is good and evil, in a hierarchy, and always presume that all facts must support it; Anything that makes top of hierarchy (trump) look bad cannot be true, anything that makes bottom of hierarchy (minorities) look bad must be true.
That is why JD Vance defended his "they're eating cats and dogs" hoax with "I'm warning people about the danger". He admitted that they didn't actually do that; To him, the danger is brown people existing.
