Before leftist 'educators' began distorting the teaching of history it was acknowledged that we descended from western culture and after we dispensed with the concept of kings and nobility we declared the remaining cultures and traditions viable and worth keeping and emulating.
This was particularly true of British culture and history. So older people -- educated before leftists gained TOTAL control of the nation's educational systems -- acknowledge Britain as representing some of the major roots of our nation. It's like seeing gramps get put in prison at age 80 just because he wolf-whistled at a pretty woman walking by on the street; which IS what leftists would do to ol' gramps, if they could.
