Anyway, imagine an egg oc but one that based on a different type of egg than the white domestic chicken egg

Actually there are different races and ethnicities of Eggs that stem from different kinds of birds, they result in different Egg appearances and are basically the Egg equivalent of differing skin colors. I've thought of this before and had similar ideas to what you have.

But what about fish or frog eggs? Or reptile or bug/buglike eggs? The possibilities are wild

The mutations that turned Eggs from normal unhatched eggs into living beings occurred because a race of birds was dominant on the planet at the time, what happened to them was merely a fluke after the Crystal of Creation struck the planet. It affected bird eggs because birds were the most common creatures and had more opportunity for those mutations to occur. I like the idea, but it doesn't fit the species' lore. Still creative tho.
