That's a facetious way of putting it. Taxpayers pay tax money to fund things like food, shelter and medical aid. Basic human decency to assist your fellow human beings benefits everyone.
Not only is a basic social safety net the compassionate and civilised thing to do but it is just basic human nature to work as a team to advance our species.

No we should be paying taxes for things like defense of the country, roads, infrastructure and such. Not for your house or for your doctor bill.

Everyone pays for infrastructure and everyone is free to use it. , only you need to pay for your house unless you want every one to use it
