Yeah… it’s too much US constitutional history for a non USA person to understand.
Isn’t the constitutional purpose of the electoral college to protect state’s rights?
Here we periodically get movements to abolish states altogether. It’s like the periodic calls to reform Federal tax distribution: both sides of politics seem to want to support centralised government and taxation, but only when their side forms the Federal government.
The US Constitution was written BEFORE the advent of a duopoly of big parties. It’s a beacon document for democracy. The ideals of the constitution are truly heroic. But party politics is too strong for the ideals.
European countries are breaking up into smaller countries. The USSR has broken up and will fragment further. China is just waiting to grab the resources. Perhaps the USA will as well??? But who would swoop in to grab US resources?

Didn't know you were non-US..."Isn’t the constitutional purpose of the electoral college to protect state’s rights?" yes, that's why Madison proposed it....you are right, the ideas are truly heroic and were debated wholeheartedly by the Founding Fathers for quite some time...I mean, we completely won Inpendence in 1783 officially but didn't have a Constitution until 1787 so, yeah.....Hamilton didn't agree with Jefferson and Madison, but they compromised to come up with what they came up with. The whole document is a master class in compromise.

Are we now in the age of the end of compromise? It just seems like America is completely divided along party lines.
I have a cousin who has a green card but escaped back here across the Pacific. He wanted to get the he’ll outta Dodge, so to speak.
He felt that he had to do it quietly. I know other Americans over here who refuse to go back there as well, including a Veteran on veteran’s benefits. He has to rely on the VA benefits to pay for all his medications and treatments.
I know other veterans still stateside who are pushing back hard against cuts to VA healthcare and benefits too.
After WWII, weren’t veterans given land grants and helped into jobs over there? It was the case here. It just seems to me that if someone sacrifices their health for their country’s wars, their country owes them. What I hear and read is that this is no longer happening.
We have a politician here who started her own small party. She’s impossible to classify as right or left, but she is retired military and she fights hard for their rights. She’s also very much into her own state’s interests. That’s why she gets elected.
Are there any Senators or Congressional Reps who aren’t from either major party? Sometimes those people can really help their constituents far more than the major party politicians.
