pros: English has some of the shortest words in any language, look how many are just one syllable.
cons: there are no general rules to the pronunciation, you have to learn it together with the meaning for a lot of words. i.e. the 'ea' sound: spear, head, lead (verb), lead (noun), hearth etc etc... ☝️🥸.
