This week I learned a lot about Christianity because despite being raised Roman Catholic I never paid much attention in RE and as an adult I chose my indigenous religion instead.
I learned that in Christian lore, Yaweh (God) will not let people into heaven based on deeds alone and that his love and forgiveness is given freely to all those who repent. So God judges the heart not the deed.
Interesting. I heard the parable that Jesus told to explain this.
There was an old farm owner who offered to pay everyone 1 Shekel for working a day on his farm. Some people came early in the morning and worked all throughout the day and were paid 1 shekel. But a few people showed up mid day and some even showed up for only the last few hours but were paid the same 1 shekel as the workers who worked all day. Naturally the workers complained that they should be given more shekels or the people who came much later and worked less should receive less.
The story is a metaphor for Gods love. That it doesn't matter how hard you worked for God or how much earlier you were than others. Gods love is given the exact same to everyone because.
Such as Matthew 7:23. "Depart from me, for I never knew you." In regards to people who did great deeds in Gods name but who's hearts were not true.
Beautiful lore tbh. Coming from me, a Hellenist.
