I’ve just started watching the series. Gonna look for the books they’re based on. Is Chee really very different in the books?

I've only seen a couple of the older PBS shows. It sounds like in the new ones, Chee isn't a police officer? ???

For the books, Thief of Time and Skinwalkers were my favorites. The relationship between Chee and Leaphorn, and how they both value their Navajo culture but in different ways, is wonderful.

In the new series, Chee is a Navajo police officer, but Leaphorn suspects he is an FBI plant. I’d recommend you watch the series and compare it to the original series.
