Proceed.
It's a book, then it got turned into a movie. In the story, they actually have a book called "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," which is a guide to some situations that they get stuck in.
So, in the movie (I haven't read the book, I just assume that the story is similar), there's this place called Magrathea. There's this giant supercomputer there that can solve any question. One of the questions asked was "what is the answer to life, the universe, and everything?" After thinking for 1000+ years, it came up with the answer: 42. It came up with this answer because the question isn't a proper question, and it's a little absurd, so the answer is also improper and absurd.
Anyway, all that to say, 42 is the answer to life, the universe, and everything.
