There's that, plus as a U.S. Senator it's easier to track his movements and set up to take the shot than it is with a private citizen like Bill Maher. Logistics matter. Of course even then some leftist organization would be given the tracking order and told to increase the agitation factors of a known leftist crazy at least theoretically capable of making the shot.

Yes and they think that the lessons of history are meaningless because in the 'modern age' they have figured out all the answers to all of the variables. It never dawns on them that one thing history shows is that once the left's leadership comes into total and across the board power and control, there ARE no variables because cruel and effective authoritarianism is the rule.
