3. Mechanics (Lethal + Secondary Uses)
Primary Lethal Mode — The Mark
Marking: Write the target’s full legal name on the underside in black or blood ink, visualize their face, and place the lid on a vessel. If the keeper frames the intent as a lethal command (explicit phrase like "end will"), the lid begins a compressed, potent process designed to end in death.
Onset: Within 48–96 hours the target’s despair escalates rapidly across condensed stages, with increased risk of fatal self‑harm. The final stage typically culminates in suicide within 2–6 weeks if unmitigated.
Fail‑safes & Interventions: Professional psychiatric treatment, strong social bonds, or supernatural rituals can interrupt the process. Timely removal of the name from the lid (and sealing) can reverse the effect if done before the final stage.
Secondary Modes — Absorb / Store / Transfer
Absorb (Black Side): Drain a person’s despair into a vessel; doing so can temporarily render that person unusually brave or numb. Useful to protect victims or create a concentrated "brew" of despair.
Release (Red Side): Pour stored despair into another’s linked object to inflict emotional collapse instantly. When used after primary lethal marking, the release can be used to accelerate or re‑target the lethal effect.
Brews & Combinations: Combining multiple brews can amplify lethality or create targeted psychological effects (e.g., panic, apathy, terror).
Hybrid Uses
Targeted Assassination: Mark a target lethally, then release additional despair mixtures to ensure the outcome even if they get help.
Sabotage & Framing: Drain despair from a public figure (making them reckless), then release it into a scapegoat to cause a public meltdown.
Rescue: Absorb a victim’s despair and hold it while they recover — a temporary, morally fraught healing method.
