Here comes autumn and with it we're back to the freezing cold.

There's no such thing as part-Scottish. Either your Scottish or you're not.
If you can't stand the cold avoid visiting between December and February and especially January. Those months we have ice everywhere and it plummets to -0c for 12 weeks.
