Gerrymander was first created by a DEM, his name was Actually GERRY. Origins of the Term
The term "gerrymander" originated in March 1812 when Elbridge Gerry, then Governor of Massachusetts, signed a bill that redistricted the state to favor his Democratic-Republican Party. One of the newly drawn districts was said to resemble a salamander, leading to the portmanteau "Gerry-mander". The term was popularized by a political cartoon published in the Boston Gazette, which depicted the oddly shaped district as a monster.
