Even Sarah McBride, the first trans member of Congress, said that Democrats haven't focused enough on the economy

Even Sarah McBride, the first trans member of Congress, said that Democrats haven't focused enough on the economy | One thing I don't understand entirely is why Trump and the Supreme Court allow state autonomy on abortion rights but want to cut down on trans rights at the national level.

You may not support trans rights politically, but in reality, if you have a client or coworker who happens to be transgender, you're still going to work together because you need to get the job done and get paid. And you might meet a trans person at the bar and have a good conversation with them.

Yes, there are a few bad actors in the trans community, but the majority of them are normal people who want to work, and they probably share your concerns on the economy and the future of America. | image tagged in spicymasterchief's announcement template, politics, trans, america, opinion, trump | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

One good thing abt Trump was low unemployment during his first term, at least until Covid. Not exactly sure how he will try to reach them this time.

On abortion, I personally believe it's the mother's choice. If the father wants the baby aborted but the mother does not, she has the right to give birth.

They claim to be for state autonomy on abortion rights because that was the play to reduce abortion rights; they are for national regulations on trans people for the same reason.

Blue states still keep their abortion rights but all states have to cut back on trans rights? Not sure how that's the same but ok

What's the same is that in each case, the choice supported by the GOP results in fewer rights for women or trans people. They're whittling away at rights any way they can. It's taken them a long time (people started noticing the effects in the aughts), but they've made regress.

It could be increasing Christian, especially Evangelical, influence. There might be some benefits to it but these will be drawbacks.

Yes, the Republican turn towards a hard attack on rights came as they allied themselves increasingly with the Evangelical community. Here's an old (but interesting article about how George W Bush helped that process along): https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/jesus/evangelicals/bushand.html

What's strange is the way that that alliance is so cemented now that Evangelicals have sworn total loyalty to a candidate who represents the exact opposite of so many of their values in Trump.

Trump aside, if it helps set a common moral ground for America while acknowledging religious freedom, increasing Christian presence may not be a bad thing. Atheists need morals too.

Even as a non-Christian I can recognize how the church shaped America's legacy. It had a role facilitating western expansion and civil rights.

Complete separation between church and state is not possible. The president holds the bible and recites "So help me God" in the oath of office. We had two Catholic presidents, JFK and Biden, but no presidents of other faiths yet.
