Yeah. Humans have very short attention spans as well as limited capacity for empathy (which is normal – we can't take on the sorrows of a whole planet or we'd all go mad). The news only focusses in on a tiny snapshot of the world at any one time like a spotlight. The vast majority of actual news remains in the dark and isn't even reported, and a lot of what is reported is barely newsworthy or just celebrity gossip. There are tons of countries you barely ever hear a story about, while other stories are constantly in the headlines.
