Honestly, "Let me read up and think about how the issues affect other people and the larger world, as well as considering how they fit into historical trends of hegemony," was always going to be kind of a hard lift for that crew compared to "What's going to get the most reactions to a meme that I can make in 30 seconds?"
Sidebar: this is why I think the Communism=Satan is a wrong hot take. Communism as a theory and an ideal exists to combat the sort of oligarchy/kleptocracy towards which America appears to be rapidly evolving. Workers had to organize, and sometimes fight and die to get protections like OSHA and the 40 hour work week.
