You comfort so many with that ignominious façade! So many apologies if what lies beneath is too much of a reply. For myself I was given an amazing opportunity to interact. And may well discern no more.

The character Ray [Kinnear] mentioned in the clip, self-deprecates in order to falsely put others -usually women- at ease. The made-up character of Dr. Charles [Ashley Judd's] fathoms that deceitfulness of Ray. Everyone is gamed by his ultra un-serious act, so no one can tell the difference between serious demands and playful ones. While trying to sort through the 'awe shucks' attitude that Ray sows as eventual confusion about his even his own desires, he nevertheless buys time to plot a winning move.

Yet Jane then counters with a grandiose theory that would typify all men as deceivers, thus missing her own point. She must, as primal female, fathom time better than anyone, accepting herself (and of course, God, if this were apes [cows] and angels [aliens... another story] in paradise). So when her heart [the backstory of a thousand rom-coms] was broken as if a news story of concern at her talk-show job? She evaporates into her own vaporous myth, staying one deluded step ahead of herself and fate, in an experiment to impossibly discern, how attraction operates as mere science.

You've attracted quite a flock here. It's no small achievement though really a village found you. As another famous, to those in the know, rom-com line goes... also about abstract loss of gratification: "There will always be another violet."
