I am a trans girl and when people say "female" to me it has never been for a good reason. "Girl" implies that I was a girl from birth which they dont like to admit. And "woman" makes me apart of the group of all woman, makes me sound mature and part of a productive society. Many people however... think that all trans people are immature and are acting like children. Which is why sometimes people, instead of just calling me male or boy or man, decide to inflict emotional damage in a way that is "socially acceptable" by referring to me as female. The looks they get on their face and the way the tone gets while they say female...just eww.

Anyways female might be ok for you, but ive always experienced it as an attack
