It's easy to understand. I spend half of your money, then I print money to cover it. Instead of higher taxes, the government dilutes your money to make up for deficit spending.
Side effect of inflation: Wealthy buy assets to hedge against inflation. Middle-class doesn't have the money to buy assets so middle-class wealth evaporates with inflation. Wealth is transferred from working folks to the wealthy through inflation.
