I think that at least some people are nation-hating leftists because of peer pressure. That's what they are taught to be in leftist controlled public schools and so they just go along with the programming and the 'politics' of their peer group.
College is a wash because for most leftists that's just an additional 4 to 6 years of play-acting at being an adult sans consequences -- aside from massive debt for the ones there without their parents being wealthy enough to issue them blank checks.
It's only after they enter the real world of working for a living that some few of them shake it off and embrace conservatism as the sane alternative.
