I didn’t even know that defeating Alduin was the main questline. I went through this whole game without even realizing what the end goal is or if I had even beaten it.
The civil war wraps up with one single speech and that’s it. I killed the General and joined with Ulfric. And then when he went to give his speech, there was still one imperial Solitude soldier left so I killed him and then the storm cloaks fined me 1000 gold for it. What a way to end the war.
The music is great, very atmospheric. But the combat music is the same no matter what fight you’re having, making every fight blend together. There is no boss battle music outside of the dragon chanting. When you are literally taking the Empire’s capital in Skyrim, it plays the exact same music as it does when you’re fighting draugrs in the first cave. It feels so anticlimactic.
All of the characters talk with one tone and show zero emotion. I get it, all the voice actors just read their lines in a room not knowing the context. That’s Bethesda for you.
Even those “cinematic kills” are so poorly animated and have aged like milk. Even Far Cry 2 from 2008 had a better finishing animation.
But just because it’s not “cinematic” doesn’t mean it’s bad. I enjoyed my time with Skyrim and had fun exploring and fighting the wide variety of goons and baddies (worst word choice).
