Two men, a senior researcher and a head researcher, sat in a dimly lit room, the Head researcher gave some files marked “high level clearance only”.

Head Researcher: … We grew up knowing and learning that we are the only species of humans left, all others have either gone extinct or assimilated into our genes.
But recent reports and study has shown that it is not that way.

Senior Researcher, reading: Homo Sanguinis…?

Head Researcher: Correct, a species of humans that closely resemble us on an anatomical standpoint… but are completely different biologically.

Senior Researcher, switching his view from the paper to his superior: How did we even find out? And why only now?

Head Researcher, standing up: We found a nearly dead child specimen of a Homo Sanguinis, and analysed it thoroughly.
From what our anatomical studies have proven, they are excellent in stealth, and have gone unseen for possibly millions of years…

Senior Researcher: Bloodfiends… Thought they were only in fairy tales…

Head Researcher: And yet there's no magic in them. Their origin is unknown, could be a mutation, or 3rd party intervention.

Senior Researcher: 3rd party inter-..? Are you assuming that aliens put these things among us???

Head Researcher, grabbing a few papers from a desk: Could be. We do not know.
*Walks towards him*
Head Researcher: Keep reading.

The senior researcher did as told.
Bloodfiends are anatomically almost identical to humans, though completely different biologically.
Their cells do not run on glucose, rather on iron. Taking a look into a bloodfiend cell, almost all functions are identical although most organelles are enhanced or completely new.
Such as the Rough and Smooth ER, which are different but still have the same function.
The Golgi apparatus is much more efficient and active.
Lysosomes are enhanced to process iron waste.
Cytoskeleton is heat resistant and resistant to oxidation.
Mitochondria instead have the function for Iron Oxidation via a ferric cycle.
Peroxisomes are supercharged antioxidant hubs.
And there's two completely Bloodfiend unique organelles. One of which has already been given a name.
Ferrisomes, a vesicle that has the function of iron storage.
And the second is still being studied, but it carries out the function of blood conversion. It converts foreign blood into the specimen’s blood.
Effects on the structure of the cell include:
Thicker, iron-resistant cell membranes;
Darker, iron-rich cytoplasm;
Modified mitochondria with more cristae;
Denser cytoskeletons.

They are extremely oxygen efficient, needing less oxygen overall. They are able to hold their breath for extended periods of time untrained, they have a low respiration rate at rest and very efficient energy production.

Their entire structure is vastly different.
Skin color ranges from pale to almost pinkish, depending on blood levels.
Hair colors range from deep reds, maroons, rust-browns or black with crimson highlights.
Less common are silver, steel-gray or a gray-ish blue.
Dominant eye colors are red. Less common ones are maroon, violet or silver.
Recessive eye colors include deep blues.
Their teeth formation is also different, as their adult teeth are “sharper” than normal human teeth. They closely resemble shark teeth, but they still retain the structure of human teeth.

Their hands are also quite peculiar, as they do not possess fingernails. Instead, what is supposed to be fingernails, is fused with their fingers in the form of claws.
To avoid confusion, they do not have finger tips, this is replaced by claws.

Their nervous system is also quite drastically different.
They are sensitive to electromagnetic fields, often being able to ‘sense’ living beings around them.
They also possess a heightened sense of smell, being able to locate blood or differentiate between blood types.

Their tissues are more compact, leading to a heavier structure, despite their small frame.
Despite this, they are able to move at peak human speeds, thanks to their stronger but also heavier muscles.

The senior Researcher stops reading.

Senior Researcher: H-how did you gather so much information in so little time-

The Head Researcher interrupts him: We didn't. We found that child 18 years ago.

Senior Researcher: And kept it hidden so long??? Why reveal it to me? And now?

Head Researcher: Because we found more of them. And our expedition didn't go well. Our exploration team got us one picture before losing contact.

*Shows the Senior Researcher the picture*

Senior Researcher, slightly worried: T-there so many…

Head Researcher: That's just a few of em. In that forest, there are so many…
You'll lead the research team along with me. We need to know everything about these… monsters…

Senior Researcher: Can't we research the specimen we have?

Head Researcher: We lost her, when she escaped at 12 years old. She was a very peculiar specimen.
