In the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day, the U.S. imports more than $250 million worth of cut flowers — mostly from Colombia and Ecuador. Thanks to a new 10% tariff, those flowers now face a $25 million ‘flower tax,’ much of which
gets passed on to Mother’s Day bouquets. This policy doesn’t just mean higher prices for consumers — it also puts added pressure on over 11,000 local florist shops and small businesses that are already stretched thin.
