I found that a good way to get in a liberal's good books is to say ONE negative thing about trump. It doesn't matter how small it is, as long as it's negative. That shatters their illusion that you worship Trump as a demigod, and they're more likely to listen to you. Remember to take it slow and try to establish what you both believe in.
