To be fair, Science is a tool. Scientific fields are works in progress whose cutting edge represents our collective best guess at the time, and are almost always subject to revision. The real failing would be the refusal to update their positions in the face of subsequent credible data.

That's the difference between starting from the position of not knowing and gathering data from observations, and starting from the position of knowing and saying "lalala-I'm not listening!" when faced with contradictory data. One is the scientific method. The other is the approach employed by closed-minded, arrogant children who have yet to learn how little they know.
