Chapter 4: Love is pain

Saike wraps the briars around Don Yoku, who’s currently unconscious.
Saike, sweating quite a bit: That’s one of them. How many left?
Ember: Five.
Saike: …great.
Ember: We should fight them further from camp though, he was too close.
Vanessa: Agreed..
Saike: Whos up next?
Ember: The fourth division of the defiant order.. Sheila.
Saike gives her a thousand yard stare.
Ember: ..Saike?
Hellllllo?
She waves a hand in his face, and he snaps out of it.
Saike: Mom, that’s my ex girlfriend.
Ember becomes silent. So does everyone in the room.
Saike: She’s the one that I-
Ember: Yeah we all have heard about it. You don’t have to say it.
Saike: Okay. So I just knock her out and take her back here?
Ember: Exactly.
Saike: So where is she?
Ember rolls out a map of hell, and brings out a pointer stick.
Ember: We are here.
She slides the pointer to the capital, and to a specific house.
Ember: And that’s where she is. Or she should be. We can’t confirm.
Saike: Sounds good.
Anne, still on his shoulders: I gotta come too! Just to make sure you don’t mess up like with Mr Yoku!
Saike: Well.. maybe we don't for this one..
Anne: Shut up Dad! I'm coming!
Saike chuckles a bit: Alright Anne.
He waves Ember goodbye, and heads out of the tent.

Walking into the city, Saike sees many different types of demons, Anne reveling in all the different shops and restaurants, looking into their windows.
Anne: Dad! Can we go to these places after we’re done?
Saike: You’ve never been to the city?
Anne: No, I’ve only been in the little tent town…
Saike: Well, we can go shopping in the prologue
Anne: Yaaay!
Saikes hood gets tugged on, throwing him to the floor, and dragging him into an alley. He quickly rises to his feet, and unsheathes Kuroba. He looks to who it was. A woman, with a staff that has two sickles on each end. She’s adorned with a very nice dress, one of royalty.
???: Hello, little brother
Saike: ..Shikina why are you here?
Shikina, with a demented smile: Here to kill you, obviously!
Saike: I should’ve guessed. He sent you? Or are you just doing it for fun?
Shikina: A little bit of both!
Saike: Haven’t changed a bit.
She lunges at him, slashing the serrated blades at him. Saike uses Kuroba to block the slashes. He parries one of her hits, and kicks her down in the stomach. She gets back up, eerie smile still on her face. She slashes him across the chest, and he grabs her blade. He uses it to slam her into a wall. Cracks form, but she stays smiling, and kicks him back in the face. Saike thinks to use hydras, but he can’t make a commotion. In this thought, he gets punched in the throat.
Shikina: Wow! You’re horrible Saike! Just like you always were.
Saike kicks her feet, making her fall to the ground, where he slashes her back.
Saike: Strings!
Thin blood lacerations come from his fingers, and slash across her face. She screams in pain, from the stinging of her wounds.
Shikina: YOU BITCH! YOU’RE THE RUNT! YOU.. YOU..

“You’re so stupid aren’t you!” Shikina says, kicking her little brother down. “I’m not!” He says, in tears. “Dad says you are! And he’s right!” She laughs at him, and continues kicking him in the stomach, face, and especially hard in the crotch. He cries and cries. “Stop!”

Death runs over and pulls Shikina off of Saike. “Don’t hit your brother like that!”
“You can’t say that! Only Dad commands me what I do!”
“I am your mother!” “Well I don’t care! You’re a terrible mother!”
She stomps off. Death helps up the scared Saike. “Hey.. are you alright?”
She brushes aside some of his hair, revealing his bright teal eyes. “I- I’m fine..” “Oh hon.. I’m so so sorry this happens..” “if only you were around more..” “I know but-“ A loud, booming voice comes through the halls. “DEATH! GET BACK TO WORK! AND STOP HARASSING SHIKINA!” She pats Saike’s head, and says her goodbyes.

Shikina: YOU STUPID, UNTALENTED, TEAL-EYED, RAT!
And with that, Saike snaps. He punches her, and kicks her while she’s down. He flips her on her back, and starts punching her in the face, over, and over, and over, and over, crushing her nose, and breaking her teeth.
Anne: DAD!
Saike stops, and looks at what he’s doing. Shikina’s face is messed up, a far cry from the perfection she had been crafting for years. She’s also knocked out.
Saike: ..come on Anne, let’s go.
Anne doesn’t ask about Shikina, and they move on.

Shochu sighs, and opens his eyes.
Shochu: Dear Shikina failed.. Go kill him Death.
Death: …
Shochu: …did you hear me? I said go kill him!
He raises his staff to hit her, but this time she catches it.
Death: I’m. Done. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH OF YOUR BULLSHIT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH?! ALL OF IT! EVERY SINGLE DAY I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE DEATHS OF EVERY SINGLE DAY AND FOR WHAT?! FOR BEING TOLD TO KILL MY OWN SON I HAD TO NEGLECT FOR THAT SAME PURPOSE?! AND EVEN STILL, YOU DON’T TREAT ME WITH A HINGE OF DIGNITY! WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CALLED ME BY MY NAME?! I BET YOU FORGOT IT! ITS XANDRIA! XANDRIA! DO I NEED TO REPEAT IT AGAIN?! DO I?!
She takes a breather.
Xandria: You’re not the Shochu I married. He was kind, compassionate, loving. But having a son with blue eyes set you off, huh? I didn’t realize how immature you were.

Shochu sits in these words, leaving the room in lingering silence, as Xandria has tears streaming down her face.
Shochu: Well.. if that’s really how you feel..
Xandria, with little hope, hopes that he turns around.
Shochu: We can execute you. I can find a new Death. I can find a new wife. Nobody will remember you.
Xandria, shocked by this, gets grabbed by one of the guards, and stabbed.

Saike walks through the citadel, slowly getting closer and closer to Shelia's house, as he shudders at the memories of their past relationship. They finally arrive, and Saike kicks down the door. He sees rose petals and candles make a pathway.
Saike, facepalming: Anne.. could you please stay here?
Anne: But how will I know you’re safe?
Saike: 1. I won’t have trouble with this, and 2. If I yell your name you can come in and help.
Anne begrudgingly agrees, and Saike walks the path of petals. It twists and winds through the fancy house, until it comes to a door. A big double door. He puts a hand on each one, and slowly opens them. Once they’re fully open, he can see inside. In the middle of the room is a huge bed. And laying there is a scantily dressed incubus.
Shelia, with a rose in his mouth: Hey there Saki~
Saike: Don’t.. call me that.
Shelia: Aww, why not? You came to renew our relationship, no?
Saike: Quite the opposite.
Shelia: Mmm.. well I might change your mind~
Saike: I’m married.
Shelia: Well.. that doesn’t change much..
Saike: I’m not cheating on my loving wife with you of all people.
Shelia giggles: You didn’t like my little trick all those years ago~?
Saike: You convinced me you were a woman for SIX MONTHS before we.. …
Silence falls on Saike.
Shelia: Before we f**ked in a subway~
Saike: …yeah.
Shelia: Whatever, the past is the past~! But.. if you aren’t here for our relationship.. why are you here?
Saike: I’ll show you.

He punches him in the face, as he had gotten pretty close. Shelia cries out in pain, and backs off.
Shelia: Oh Saki! That.. that.. felt so goood~!
Saike: ..you’re gross.
Saike pulls out Kuroba, and dashes at Shelia. He slashes across his chest, and he punches back. Saike looks away and looks back for one second, and he sees a huge fist coming at him. He narrowly dodges, and looks where it came from. Shelia brings his fist back, and it turns back to its natural size.
Saike: The f**k is that?!
Shelia: Well.. I have the power to grow any part of my body~! Now do you wanna-
Saike: NO! But that explains a lot..
He runs at him, and tries slashing at him, but a hand blocks his way before he can. When it shrinks back down, it’s reduced to mere paper cuts. He breathes. In, and out. In, and out. Faster and faster. He speeds up his breathing until his eyes spark alive, blazing teal. He rushes him, when he puts out a hand, he sees it ahead of time, and dodges out of the way, and finally kicks Shelia in the face.
Shelia: GAH- Your beautiful teal eyes!
Saike shoves the blunt of Kuroba in his mouth, to shut him up. He slaps the shit out of Shelia, as well as punching him in the face. After a minute, he gets off him, Kuroba in hand. Shelia doesn’t fall, but his face is bruised and beaten.
Shelia: Oh Saki.. I didn’t realize you were into tha-
Saike quickly runs over and punches him in the face again, and slashes his chest with Kuroba, sending him into a wall. Saike waits for him to get up. A burst of pink flows from the cracks. Shelia dashes out, pink aura surrounding her. She has wings now, and grabs Saike, bringing him up high.
Shelia: Sorry Saki.. I have to kill you! Orders from the boss, you get it.
Saike kicks away from her, high in the sky, and begins to fall. Shelia flies over to grab him again, but he throws Kuroba at him, lodging it in his chest. He uses the blood strings he attached Kuroba to, and he pulls Shelia at him.

With the force of gravity and his pull, he punches him in the face, and grabs his hair, they keep falling, Saike aiming Shelia’s face at the ground.
Shelia: Before I go.. I.. I truly love you Saike!
Saike: I DON’T RECIPROCATE THOSE FEELINGS! MOVE ON!
They smash into the concrete, right in front of Anne. Shelia, getting most of the impact, is knocked out.
Anne: Took you long for “not having trouble with this”
Saike: Whatever, it’s done, let’s just take him back to the encampment.
Anne agrees, and they run back to Ember. She wraps Shelia up with the bramble.
Ember: He didn’t do anything to you hon..?
Saike: No.. I’m alright Mom..
Anne: He beat him easily!
Saike: Much easier than Yoku.. how’s he doing by the way?
Ember: He’s still out cold.
Saike: Good. Who’s next?

Saike got the Ace Ventura Pet Detective treatment
