I can kind of see why people say this is the worst Yakuza game. It’s just a port of a PS4 game on Unreal Engine with minimal improvements. Its story is rather uninteresting until the second half. One of the fighting styles is literally just spamming the X button. And half the skill tree is just damage and health improvements.
But its open world felt extremely alive (despite a lot of streets being empty) because there were side stories literally everywhere. It had the friend system from Yakuza 0, it had the training areas for fighting styles, it had the side activity with Haruka, and it had the troop command abilities.
Once again, this game is the opposite of Lost Judgment. Lost Judgment’s story was so amazing, easily in the top 2 of the series, and its combat was superb. But its open world was so dead and all the side stories were condensed in 2 locations. That’s why Lost Judgment, despite being a great game, is my least favorite Yakuza name.
We can debate that all day, but whichever one it is, the worst Yakuza game is better than the best Sonic game.
