It didn't hit me until today during our Bible study that this section at the end of Luke 16 pertaining to the rich man & Lazarus that this actually shows middle knowledge/counterfactuals example. Now recall in John 11:38-44 Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead? "they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by, I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me." 'Now hen He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" And he who had died came out bound hand and; foot with graveclothes, & his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Loose them, and let him go." John 11:41-44 (nkjv) note that Jesus said this because He knew they would believe if He raised him from the dead? Now read Luke 16:27-31 below... Now notice in the section in Luke verse 31 says "But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.'" Abraham was a man of God & spoke according to what God moved him to say & he said that statement which is good evidence since God would have to know if these guys would've repented by hearing it from one brought back from the dead. God does & doesn't do miracles depending on what is best, timing or what; would & wouldn't work & if that would've been the way they would've heard then He would've allowed this if it were the only way since He isn't willing that ANY should perish. He would have to know what they would & wouldn't do given those circumstances & refused to do this because He knew it would be fruitless which shows He also exercises middle knowledge as well.
