Rarely but there are some killers who have blamed music lyrics or game violence for doing a killing & someone under total mind control, especially if it's by a computer chip, might say this. Often though they say it in a less direct way but it just emphasizes the reality of where people get much of the stuff they're into. it happens in all walks of life but some groups are more prone to get brainwashed in larger numbers depending on what the belief system is. The belief system itself can have nuances that make it easier for someone's entire person to be engulfed. for example 5 point Arminians are legalistic & insufferable but less people who are more minded in the Arminian scripture understanding get into the extreme since free will is emphasized & watching your works & behavior whereas 5 point Calvinists are more legalistic & even more insufferable & more of those more minded in Calvinist scripture understanding get into the extreme because it denies free will, focuses on getting God the glory ONLY & His sovereignty plus the other ghoulish stuff taught in it & much of the wording In Calvin's institutes uses gaslit cognitive dissonance, shaming & fear mongering. Individual responsibility, moral choices, conservative traditionalism & a Palagian or semi-Palagian view can lead to awful behavior & mind control but collectivism, emotionalism, liberal view & a more Gnostic view rarely can avoid being totally encompassed.
