The purpose of schools are not to be welfare distribution centers.

Excuse me.

But I think paying for kids to be able to get a meal free would be good

The purpose of school is to prepare the next generation

And that includesaling sure they can at least be full enough to pay attention

When we had universal school lunch for two years grades went up and people did better

IT HAS BENEFITS

And also, we don't need literal kids raising money to pay off debt

We don't have to not do it because we used to do it

I WANT KIDS TO HAVE A MEAL WHEN THEY NEED IT

Schools already get publicly funded

They teach your kids free

Ability to learn

Seems like school already does a lot, and we HAVE done this already, we can do it again

They do NOT teach your kids for free.

I homeschooled my two kids. One's in college and the other starts college later this year. He wife and I did alright.

Parents have the responsibility to take care of their kids.
Not Government programs. The State, if you will.

Ok, you did homeschool your kids

Thats nice, and I mean that, you helped your kids succeed and hopefully they will do Great thing in their lives and I do hope they do so

But so e parents have to work, which is where school comes in, some parents don't have time to just homeschool kids, and some parents are working as hard as they can and still can't make enough to help their kid as much as they want, at every school I've been to, which let's be clear is 5

At lunch most people don't bring lunch boxes

They get lunch at school

And if this government is one of the people and taxes the people, then I think that tax money helping to feed kids is a good use

There are adults who can't afford school lunches and yes there's programs for this people but they can be rejected or make a dollar over and suddenly have to pay a lot of money

And kids being able to get a meal without parents having to worry about money is critical

There is much more than food that goes into a successful leaving environment, and free lunch for every kid in attendance
a) is only a very small piece of that
b) actually increases cost dramatically, and disproportionately on lower funded schools
c) does not teach anything about self reliance, but instead promoted an expectation that the world always provide
d) only furthers the predicament of parents not taking care of their children

Is the goal to better society? Because this, like so many other social programs, has already proven the fact that throwing more money at a problem does not solve it.

Kids need sleep for a successful day at school. Will schools provide bedrooms? Showers? All meals?

My son volunteers at a faith based outreach center in our area. The program he helps with and even incorporated into his Eagle Project was teaching nutrition to low income kids who are home all day during the summer. Teaching how to make cheap healthy meals that they can do themselves. How to shpp on a tight budget and how good balanced food isn't expensive or out of reach.

The kids take to it amazingly. The sense of accomplishment, the sense of purpose, the demystifying of cooking all serve them far better in life than "here ya go, here's a box of Eggos and sandwiches, come back next week" that the schools provide as summer meal plans.
