What exactly do you mean by that? Because I'm not working for free, or on a scale that changes based on my employers whims. I'm assuming that's not what you mean.
Do you mean the minimum wage system? I do think it a actually keeps wages low, because it's a number that can be pointed at as acceptable by employers, and if they pay more, they can brag that they pay x above minimum wage, even if x is miniscule.
If you're refering to a universal basic income, I still think we would need a wage system on top of that. The basic income would/should cover basic needs only, but everything earned would be for the extras people want.
