Another visitor shocked -- shocked I say! -- that politics is the primary concern of a stream devoted to . . . politics; and that inside the United States it can get heated?
The 'political' streams of other nations would outwardly seem more placid and conciliatory simply because the memers KNOW that they will end up in prison for straying outside the approved narrative of their government.
This stream tends to have uneven moderation and so other streams were created. Two of them are devoted to conservative perspectives because before they were created ONLY the leftist perspective was represented on Imgflip. The others are leftist because they now have to exist in an ideological and political echo-chamber in order to thrive at all.
All of this, however, is the end result of the guarantee of freedom of speech. We can ardently hold to differing opinions and STILL stay out of prison for daring to have them. That is not a given in many European or U.K. nations.
Yes, but the definition of a meme is “ an image, video, piece of text, etc., typically humorous in nature, that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users, often with slight variations.” Politics is basically the opposite of that.
