1984 was written by a libertarian socialist about totalitarian socialism

We now know today libertarian socialism never works out since it relies on positive freedom instead of negative freedom, leading to a incentive for the state to grow larger (if you don't know what positive or negative freedom are MentisWave has a good video that covers it).

However the book was also written in 1947-1948 and not 2025 and was way before several communist revolutions occurred that obviously pointed out the flaws in socialism regardless of it being libertarian or socialist, so I think Orwell can't really be blamed for thinking that the more utopian kind of socialism was still attainable

Man, I was checking your profile to see what comment was Alex55 answering in one of his memes, and... You know 1984 was written explicitly against all totalitarianism, right. Like Animal Farm was a parody of the russian revolution, but 1984 deliberately included parallels to both fascism and communism, as while communists may call themselves left wing, communist regimes are mostly just fascism with more red than green in the pictures.
1984 is not against totalitarian socialism, it's against totalitarianism, period.
Also, the book is kind of bad at carrying that message across, as the problems are very clearly cause by faith, not by totalitarianism per se, if you eliminate the figures of the eternal war and the big brother, 1984 would be a utopia ngl.

wuh...? yeah, Orwell is a pretty good author, albeit a pretty inconsistent one. Like 1984 has some parts that are amazing and some that are a drag. My recommendation (as someone who's read it fully) is to skim through it. If a paragraph is boring you, skip it, the only unskippable thing is the end in the ministry of love and goldstein's book. Everything else is pretty skimmable. Also there are some pretty cringe dialogue that makes it look like orwell has never touched a woman ngl.

Like... keeping the bones of the party described in the book of goldstein, but not the rest of it:
A decentralized government, control by those with the most innate rational skill and with anyone who rebels against it being reeducated.
The thing is to not corrupt that rational ability with faith, wethe be it in god, the party's symbol big brother or the impersonal idol of "western society"
One might also consider that the idolatry of rationality pseudointellectuals do is also a faith, and in that I agree, the world must leave all faith behind if we want to get to a utopy.
